What We Do
Nine focus areas where AFDAN actively addresses critical issues and implements sustainable, community-led solutions across Somalia.
Protecting women and children at risk of, or affected by, gender-based violence. We raise awareness, provide safe spaces and counseling, implement safeguarding measures, and advocate for survivors’ rights and protection.
Enabling women to achieve financial independence through sustainable livelihoods — from greenhouse farming and enterprise to skills and market access — so they can provide for their families and lead in their communities.
Engaging young people early in governance, decision-making, and leadership — building the confidence, skills, and platforms the next generation needs to shape their own future.
Ensuring access to nutritious food and sustainable livelihood opportunities. Through nutrition programs, cash transfers, and the distribution of non-food items, we help individuals and families achieve food security and economic stability.
Expanding access to quality education and modern digital skills — including AI literacy — equipping youth and marginalized groups to participate and compete in a rapidly changing world.
Climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable land management, and clean environmental practices that help communities adapt to drought and flooding while safeguarding future generations.
Access to safe water and sanitation through community-based solutions and hygiene promotion — reducing disease transmission and building healthier, more resilient environments.
Rapid, dignified relief for displaced populations — emergency shelter, essential non-food items, and coordinated humanitarian assistance in the aftermath of crisis.
Dialogue, mediation, and reconciliation engaging local leaders, youth, and women — promoting social cohesion and addressing the root causes of conflict through community-led programs.
