During the blessed month of Ramadan 2026, AFDAN launched a coordinated humanitarian campaign to support internally displaced families facing severe hardship. Over the course of 10 days, the organization implemented a series of Iftar distributions and emergency water trucking operations, reaching vulnerable households across several IDP camps.
Through this initiative, AFDAN delivered food assistance, safe drinking water, and emergency relief to families experiencing displacement, drought, and water scarcity—demonstrating the power of compassion, community partnership, and rapid humanitarian response.
AFDAN officially launched its 2026 Iftar Program in Barwaaqo IDP Camp, providing food and clean drinking water to 326 vulnerable households.
This first day set the tone for the campaign—ensuring that displaced families could break their fast with dignity and access essential nourishment during Ramadan.
Recognizing the growing water crisis affecting IDP communities, AFDAN simultaneously initiated an Emergency Water Trucking Project. Through this intervention, 63,000 liters of clean water were distributed, benefiting 1,260 families suffering from severe water shortages.

On the second day of the initiative, AFDAN continued its Ramadan Iftar distributions, once again supporting vulnerable households with food and water.
The consistent daily assistance helped ensure that displaced families had access to basic necessities during the holy month, reinforcing AFDAN’s commitment to standing with communities during times of hardship.

From Day 3 through Day 6, AFDAN intensified its water trucking operations, successfully delivering water to the Barwaaqo IDP community and expanding assistance to other settlements experiencing acute water shortages.
The humanitarian team then reached Nasteexo IDP Camp, extending lifesaving water support to families living in remote areas with limited access to clean water sources.
Over these four days, the project focused on reaching hard-to-access communities, ensuring that families affected by drought and displacement received safe drinking water.

By day 7, AFDAN successfully completed water trucking activities at the Doomey IDP Site. All targeted households were reached, ensuring vulnerable families gained reliable access to safe and sufficient water—a critical resource for health, hygiene, and daily survival.
On Day 8, the AFDAN team expanded operations to Shabelle IDP Camp, continuing water distribution efforts as part of the ongoing emergency response. The activity remained active throughout the day as the team worked to meet the urgent needs of families facing severe water shortages.

As the Ramadan humanitarian campaign concluded, AFDAN leadership held a strategic meeting with the regional governor to discuss the ongoing drought crisis affecting the region.
Throughout the initiative, AFDAN successfully delivered humanitarian assistance to 1,500 affected households, including:
Iftar meals for displaced families
Essential relief support for vulnerable IDP communities
The assistance reached multiple displacement sites, including:
Barwaqo IDP Camp
Shabelle IDP Camp
Doomey IDP Camp
Nasteexo IDP Camp
During the meeting, the regional governor expressed deep appreciation for AFDAN’s humanitarian efforts, recognizing the organization’s dedication to supporting communities affected by drought and displacement.
AFDAN remains steadfast in its mission to serve vulnerable communities across Somalia, particularly during critical moments such as Ramadan.
By delivering lifesaving assistance, strengthening partnerships, and responding quickly to emerging crises, AFDAN continues to bring hope, dignity, and resilience to families facing the most difficult circumstances. Together with its partners and supporters, AFDAN will continue working to ensure that no community is left behind.
