Africa Develepment Action Network - AFDAN

Who We Are

AFDAN organization is a local NGO, Non-profit and Non-political, which was formed in July 2019 by group of Somali intellectuals in response to the increased insecurity, suffering, famine and deaths in Somalia. AFDAN is committed to support well being of Somali community through providing education, humanitarian and development programs. works with local communities, institutions and the needy persons in Somalia.

During its existence, the organization has successfully conducted several activities such as Human Rights Monitoring, intervention programs such as food distribution and construction of shelter and schools to promote access to basic education. Through our initiatives, we strive to enhance resilience, self-reliance, and dignity among individuals and communities.

Food

Food Security and Livelihoods Pastoral GU 2024 Seasonal Assessment

AFDAN, in collaboration with UN agencies, SIDA, and WFP, undertook a project focused on community mobilization and joint assessment in the IDP camps.

AFDAN conducted sustainable agricultural training for the marginalized local farmers and their communities.

In Bula Burte, AFDAN collaborated with WASH Cluster Somali & UNICEF to distribute hygiene kits to 1,000 households. 

AFDAN provided an iftar program in Ramadan (March 2024.) 410 people from 3 IDP camps were the target beneficiaries.

AFDAN, in collaboration with various humanitarian agencies and UN OCHA, conducted a comprehensive flood assessment in Belet Weyne.

AFDAN constructed eight toilets at relocation sites in Belet Weyne for the displaced households.

AFDAN was tasked with chlorinating four wells located in Beledweyne town.

CCCM Cluster partners and local authorities including AFDAN collaboratively conducted an extensive IDP site verification exercise in Jowhar.

In Central Somalia, we provided critical NFIs to 200 IDP households in Mogadishu, ensuring access to hygiene essentials.

Shelter

Emergency Shelter Kit for IDPs

AFDAN initiated a project to provide Emergency Shelter Kits for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The primary objective was to offer immediate relief and support to those affected by crises.

We conduct GBV awareness campaigns, implements safeguarding measures, and provides safe spaces and counseling services to those affected.

We promote inclusive elections by conducting civic education initiatives and fostering community engagement to ensure broader participation and awareness.

WASH & Shelter Programs

We address water supply and sanitation needs, promotes hygiene behavior change, and provides emergency shelters to support communities in crisis.
